REGION DAY
Wednesday, June 8 is Region Day. Our
activities are sure to make you want to return to Tulsa.
Walking tour of downtown: 10 am - 11 am or 1 pm - 2 pm
Our coach will pick us up at the hotel at 9:30 am or 12:30 pm. The
historical Business District of Tulsa offers a meaningful account of downtown’s
early years and the opulence and wealth of the oil barons of the 20’s.
Much of Tulsa’s large Art Deco “collection” of architecture will be showcased on
this tour. Part of the tour will be walking through the underground
tunnel. (See Downtown Tulsa and Tulsa Tunnel Trivia)
Cost $25 per person.
Oklahoma Aquarium: 10 am-3 pm
Self guided tour of the brand-new Aquarium to be followed by lunch on your own.
After lunch you will be free to shop historic Jenks, Oklahoma, the capital of
fine antiques and early attic treasures. Our coach will pick us up at the
hotel at 9:30 am, take us to the Aquarium, take us in to Jenks for lunch and
shopping, and return us to the hotel by 3 pm. Reservations are
recommended. Cost $30 per person plus lunch.
Jane Zimmerman Lecture: 2 pm - 3:30 pm
Our guest speaker will have an interesting lecture on The Golden Age of English
Needlework. The English needle worker during the 16th through the 18th
centuries developed many techniques which are important to us today ---
including blackwork, canvas, Florentine, sampler, crewel, whitework and silk and
metal work. Jane’s slide-lecture will introduce you to many existing
examples from major museum collections from this special age of needlework.
This will be held at the hotel. Cost $5.
DINNER (included in fee) will be served at 5:30 pm.
FIRST TIME ATTENDEES will have an orientation at 6:30 pm.
TEACHERS’ SHOWCASE begins at 7 pm.
The SCR ANNUAL MEETING starts at 8 pm.
TEACHERS’ SHOWCASE
Come meet the teachers and see a sampling of
their available class projects before the SCR annual meeting. This is an
opportunity to look at class workshops and possible chapter programs. We
invite any area teachers to participate in displaying their class projects at
Teachers’ Showcase. To reserve a space, please contact
Janetta Williamson.
