Rio Grande Valley Needle Arts

McAllen, Texas

An active, energetic chapter, we offer a wide variety of educational opportunities - from one-on-one help to classes with well-known teachers. Socail events reange from stitch-ins in member's homes to luncheons, Christmas party, and an annual Sleepover.

We are a warm friendly group who welcome all interested stitchers at any level of handwork knowledge. Located in the Rio Grande Valley which attracts many people who come just for the winter, we have a fair number of plural members who are here only in the winter, and we are always happy to have them back. We try hard to keep things lively while they are here, and still have other attractions during the summer for those who live here year around.

Meeting Information

Meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month at the First Baptist Church, 600 Kansas St. Weslaco (located mid-valley).

9:30 AM - Coffee and Converation
10:00 AM - Business Meeting
11:00 AM - Program, usually needlework related

Exceptions: No bus meeting June-August, December.
November is annual meeting; second Wednesday.

Stitch-Ins

Stitch-ins are held on the second Wednesday of each month, held in the homes of various members from Mission to Port Isabel.  Always a good time with a few nibbles of food and lots of conversation and new things to see.

Exceptions: None in November; December is Christmas Party instead.  January is annual luncheon and two-day workshop.

Special Interest Group

The Chapter holds workshops on various techniques, usually the third Wednesday of the month at the church.

We usually do a sleepover at a member's home in October.  One lady who has a large house hosts it, and anywhere from 10 to 20 of us go with food for meals, etc. and have a ball!

Membership

Membership includes monthly educational meetings, a monthly newsletter, and a subscription to the EGA magazine, Needle Arts.

Membership is open to all persons without regard to race, color, creed, or stitching proficiency, upon application and payment of $30.00 annual dues.  Plural dues are $10.00. (Members from other EGA chapters out of the SCR are $11.00).
