Class: An Overview of Finishing on Linen

This one-day class will briefly cover materials and sewing techniques used in the flat, padded finishing technique that I use for pinkeeps and ornaments. Students will be encouraged to bring something that they have stitched, but not finished, and we will finish it in class. I propose that students email me ahead of time with a description of what they intend to bring so that I will have enough supplies for individual preferences.

Bring: A Linen stitched piece

Proficiency Level: All

Kit Fee: $25.00

Class Number: 103
Teacher: Marion Scoular
Class: Arm Chair Finishes

Three techniques for finishing embroidered items will be covered in six hours, none involving a table, only a lap. No sewing machine! The corded edge (outline stitch) can be used for needlepoint, counted embroidery, and crewel. Quick and inexpensive, the effect is very professional and makes a 90° bend in needlepoint possible. Knife edged pincushion (blanket stitch) is an attractive hand-finish for counted thread projects. Ilse's Picot Edge (buttonhole stitch and pulled stitches) is an elegant edge for hangings, placemats, and napkins. This is ideal for the sides of a chatelaine. Doodles may be stitched which will be notebook references so that the student may apply the ideas to projects that are in need of finishing. All necessary materials will be provided.

Bring: Usual Stitching Supplies
